Building on a newly interpreted open space framework, the large housing estate from the 1980s is given a new conciseness in its internal and external impact. Spatial, ecological and social approaches are brought together at various levels in order to endow the thoroughly colorful Schlaatz with as much resilience as possible. The „Lange Linie“ is being transformed from a former traffic artery into an eco-social backbone. Gentle additions to the prefabricated buildings improve both the mix of uses and barrier-free access to the buildings. The location of the new building blocks provides orientation and conciseness without negatively affecting the existing buildings. New forms of living, production and working complement the Schlaatz mix in the sense of new diversity.
„On the one hand, the authors have succeeded in creating a new perception and spatial quality for Schlaatz that creates identity, and on the other hand, they have created an ecological green-blue infrastructure that strengthens the necessary resilience of the settlement area with regard to climate adaptation and biodiversity. A new brand Schlaatz.“ (Assessment of the jury)
