through the closure of the shipyard, new space is being created for a new city district in the southern part of bremerhaven. this district will be characterized by its omnipresent water supply and its shoreside connection to superordinate green spaces. the existing weser dyke promenade will be extended from the north stretching into the new city area as a generous waterfront, while the southern fresh air corridor will serve as a park at the interface between geestemünde and the new port district, offering play and sports facilities. fast connections for gentle forms of mobility, integrated rainwater management, and careful resource management in all construction phases will carry the urban district into the future in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. simultaneously, identity-creating relics of the shipyard's operations will be preserved: for example, the slipway surrounded by cranes will be converted into a spacious grassed area for relaxing and recreation with a view of the fishing port and the city skyline behind it.
